INTRODUCTION TO BIOMOLECULES
Eloise I. Prieto, PhD ----- Dr. Eloise I. Prieto is currently an Assistant Professor of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology and Principal Investigator at the Nanobiology Laboratory (NBL) in the National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology in UP Diliman. She obtained her MS and PhD in Integrated Life Sciences in 2010 and 2013, respectively, from Kyoto University in Japan. She joined NIMBB shortly after she received her doctorate. Dr. Prieto's main research interest is in the field of chromatin structure dynamics and biomaterials. Her current researches include the nanometer-scale analysis of archaeal chromatin structure, nuclear architecture dynamics in cancer cells, and the characterization of physical properties of cells using atomic force microscopy. |
GENETIC ENGINEERING AND ITS APPLICATIONS
Pia D. Bagamasbad, PhD ----- Dr. Pia D. Bagamasbad is currently an Associate Professor of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology and Principal Investigator at the Molecular Endocrinology Laboratory (MEL) in the National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology in UP Diliman. She obtained her PhD in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology in 2012 from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Dr. Bagamasbad's main research interest is in the molecular mechanisms of hormone action. Her current researches include a promoter-based drug screen for prostate cancer, the identification of non-coding RNAs induced by thyroid hormones in neurons, and the role of a tumor suppressor gene in glucocorticoid therapy in breast cancer. |
GENOMICS, TRANSCRIPTOMICS, AND PROTEOMICS Ian Kendrich C. Fontanilla, PhD ----- Dr. Ian Kendrich C. Fontanilla is the Director and Associate Professor of the Institute of Biology (IB), College of Science, University of the Philippines, Diliman. He is also the Principal Investigator of the DNA Barcoding Laboratory at IB and the Program Director for Biodiversity of the Philippine Genome Center, University of the Philippines. He obtained his BS Biology and MS Biology (Genetics) at IB, UP DIliman and PhD in Genetics at the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom. Dr. Fontanilla’s main research interest is molecular phylogenetics, with emphasis on the evolutionary history of Philippine endemic species. His team at IB is involved in various collaborative work with the Biodiversity Management Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources to populate the Philippine reference database for DNA barcodes of Philippine native and endemic species that could be used in wildlife forensics. |
